Deck the Chairs: Beloved Jacksonville Beach Holiday Tradition Returns

Annual Event Features More Than 60 Decorated Lifeguard Chairs

Colorful Tradition Brightens Winter Holidays

A beloved Jacksonville Beach holiday tradition is returning this year, bringing with it a dazzling display of more than 60 decorated lifeguard chairs. The annual Deck the Chairs event, coordinated by Deck the Chairs DTC (DTC), has become a cherished part of the Beaches' winter holiday celebrations. Since its inception in 2013, the event has grown exponentially, with attendance estimates quadrupling over the past decade.

For the 2023 event, the colorful lifeguard chairs will once again fill the Jacksonville Beach shoreline, transforming it into a festive winter wonderland. Individuals, families, and businesses are invited to participate by decorating a chair according to a theme of their choice. The chairs are provided by the City of Jacksonville, and DTC takes care of all the logistics, including setup, lighting, and security.

"We are thrilled to see Deck the Chairs return for its 11th year," said DTC Co-Founder Victoria Michael. "This event brings our community together and creates a truly magical holiday experience. We can't wait to see the amazing decorations that people come up with this year."

In addition to the decorated chairs, Deck the Chairs will feature a variety of family-friendly activities, including live music, holiday vendors, and children's crafts. The event is free and open to the public, and attendees are encouraged to bring their own chairs and blankets for seating.
