Karen Sheila Gillan was born on November 28, 1987, in Inverness, Scotland. She is the only child of Marie Paterson and John Gillan. Gillan began her career as a model before transitioning to acting. She made her television debut in 2006 in the series "Rebus" and went on to star in "Doctor Who" as Amy Pond.
